CHARACTER INFO
Name: Soeria Marina (AKA Effy)
Gender: Female
Source: Original Character
Canon point: After she meets the ghost of her dead mother, discovers she's supposed to guard an ancient artifact that nobody cares to explain too much about, and also meets a bunch of demon people who are not entirely unpleasant.
Age: 13
Colour: #2AB500
Chumhandle: forebodingEvasion
History: Some three-hundred years ago or so, there was a civilisation in Central America that managed to avoid the fate that had befallen others similar to it. Legend goes that many of its people were gifted with magic, and thanks to that, their living place was successfully concealed for years and years.
That was until some idiot writer led the Spaniards right to it and ruined everything. But he's not who this app is about, so here is the last thing that will be said about that disastrous day: there was a baby girl who could turn out to be a pretty important person, the villagers thought, and she probably shouldn't die that day. Naturally, they didn't trust the idiot writer to look after her. Nor did they trust the Spaniards. So, the baby girl's grandmother did the only other thing that occurred to her: she sent the girl three hundred years into the future.
Good thing Soeria was too young to remember when any of this happened, or her childhood could have been a really ridiculously complicated affair. Thankfully, she was adopted by a pleasant guy in the States and lived a relatively normal life in the city for some good years. Her submissive disposition meant that she was prone to getting bullied, but that's certainly nothing out of the ordinary.
At the age of ten, another girl moved in with her father - she was his niece, Clover, come from a more rural town for reasons she was never happy to explain in detail - and although she and Soeria didn't get along very well at first, they eventually became best friends. In fact, it was Clo who started calling her Effy. The thought process behind it wasn't particularly clever ("man, those dicks gotta stop callin' ya four-eyes! FOUR-EYES? EFF-EE? EFFY HEY I'M GONNA CALL YA EFFY NOW"), but she liked it and the nickname stuck around.
Anyway, things continued to be normal for a few more years - three-ish of them - until one fateful and decidedly bizarre night, when Effy is visited by the spirit of her long-dead mother. She flips out - Clover, a stubborn sceptic, flips out further. Her mother, Areia, has come to lead Effy along the same path she travelled in life, to guard an artefact that now lies in the ruins of her dead civilisation.
Clover flips out a little more because wow.
Some details are sketchy, and Areia doesn't seem entirely willing - or capable - of clarifying them. Why did she only come now? And what even is that artefact? Why does it need guarding? What does it do? Effy wonders...
But not for long, because OH MY GOSH, IT TURNS OUT SHE CAN DO ~*~MAGIC~*~ TOO.
Before she can become a proper guardian, she must learn many things. Her mother has been tasked with imparting some of the necessary knowledge. Some will come from others. The rest, only life can teach her. Like, manning up and such. That's important. With a caring mother and an overly protective friend by her side, along with others like her also long-dead (and oddly aggressive) grandfather, one certain writer and a shady billionaire, she will surely succeed.
Or, well... She would, anyway, if she was never whisked away to play Sburb.
Wouldn't she?
Personality: As mentioned, Effy doesn't exactly have a commanding personality. She is very much the kind of person who prefers to have someone she can follow and look up to, even going so far as to practically worship them. It doesn't help that she's young and impressionable, either... but that means she could, eventually, grow out of it - if she happened to latch on to someone who wouldn't enable that kind of behaviour, perhaps.
Her lack of maturity manifests in a few other ways, too: she tends to run away from problems rather than facing them head-first, and her view of the world at large is still so idealistic that it's downright naive. The good guys always win, the bad guys get punished, the bad guys who are actually good at heart can be saved. She usually keeps it to herself, though, since Clover, being a ~*mature 15-year-old*~, tends to make fun of her perspective.
On the plus side, she's eager to learn (and to help, because a guardian sure sounds a lot like a hero, and if she's meant to be a hero, then by god, she'll be a hero). On the other hand, when she doesn't succeed, she feels inclined to give up.
Yes, she's a little insecure, but what young teenager isn't? Really, when you look at her this way, it becomes clear that many of her problems are based on her need to mature; Effy is just a little girl who likes to read light-hearted fantasy comics, play games and go on the internet and leave poorly written comments on Youtube telling people to stop being such bullies, because writing things is a little easier than saying them, and boy she wishes she could punch people sometimes.
Maybe, one day, she will grow past all that and become a healthy, confident young lady, fully aware of who she is and what she wants.
Or maybe she will latch on to the wrong kind of person, and her repressed frustration will be channelled in the worst possible ways.
Effy might need some help discovering herself, but in the end, she can only find the right answer on her own.
Abilities & physical limitations: Physically, there isn't much about Effy that's worthy of note; she wasn't the best at Gym class, but she is relatively nimble. Her true potential lies in her magical abilities. Her powers are generally earth-based: she can manipulate flora to an extent (by making flowers grow, or straight-up controlling vines), and she is capable of concentrating her energy into magic blasts or beams of Pretty Much Literal Magic. She is still just learning how to control these skills, though, and her grasp over them isn't very solid yet. There is also a thing or two she doesn't even know she can do. Like earthquakes.
Things can get awkward when you don't know you can make earthquakes and then suddenly you do.
Appearance: Here is a picture!
Notable AU differences from canon, if applicable: N/A
Strife Specibus: Stickkind
Prototyping: An issue of the popular, copyright laws-friendly manga Magical Girl Doki-chan
Title: Sprout of Promise
In-game abilities: When fully realised, her abilities should revolve around inciting growth - in herself or in others. In more game-y terms, maybe she could be a decent buffer!
... Seriously though I continue to be bad at these, but I do have this vague idea that will probably develop into something greater at a later point.
Just like her powers. This app has just gotten hells of deep.
Planet: The Land of Thorns and Leaves is a densely forested planet inhabited by rowdy, tough echidnas who fear absolutely nothing. Unfortunately, this means they have a tendency to just dive right into the poison ivy that infests the land and makes large portions of it inaccessible. It is said that this plague was caused by the fearsome denizen Tepeyollotl, who can reshape the land with his mighty voice alone. The echidnas have tried taking on him themselves. They weren't very successful.

[11:33] SS: its just me and the wild, yes...
[11:34] FE: I know!!!
[11:34] FE: if spirits exist, and magic exists and demons exist
[11:34] FE: then spaceships have to exist too!
[11:34] FE: and when I find one I'm gonna help you!!!
[11:35] SS: uh...
[11:35] SS: im going to be fine...
[11:35] SS: honestly...

[11:37] SS: i really dont mind conversation...
[11:37] SS: i started this one after all...
[11:37] FE: yeah but you didn't know who you were talking to...
[11:37] FE: wait
[11:37] FE: did you???
[11:38] SS: um...
[11:38] SS: no...
[11:38] SS: im not psychic that would be weird...
[11:38] FE: oh
[11:39] FE: I thought maybe it'd be an alien thing
[11:39] SS: well there are rumors of some psychic abilities in some of us...
[11:39] SS: but theyre just that...
[11:39] SS: and i am most definitely not...
[11:40] FE: I bet it's true though
[11:41] SS: you think so...?
[11:41] FE: yeah!!!
[11:41] SS: i wonder...
[11:41] FE: a lot of people on earth think ghosts and magic don't really exist either
[11:42] FE: oh and psychics too
[11:42] SS: perhaps the most well-documented claim to psychic ability is a myth for the purple tribes of the ocean...
[11:43] SS: that once every 300 cycles, a seer would be born to help guide their tribe to prosperity...
[11:43] SS: but there hasnt been a record of anyone claiming such ability in ages...
[11:43] FE: wooow
[11:46] SS: yeah...
[11:46] SS: i dont know...it doesnt concern me, i suppose...
[11:46] FE: sorry I went kinda speechless there!
[11:46] FE: because that sounds really cool
[11:47] SS: i dont know...
[11:47] SS: according to legends they could only see the future in their dreams...
[11:47] SS: and they couldnt control what they saw...
[11:48] FE: it still sounds awesome!!!
[11:48] SS: what are your rumored "psychics" like...?
[11:49] FE: well ummm
[11:49] FE: I was thinking of mind-readers and such
[11:49] FE: but I guess some people believe in seers too!!!
[11:49] SS: mindreading...now that would be a crazy power to have...
[11:49] SS: i feel like youd grow to hate it...
[11:51] FE: you think...?
[11:51] FE: I wouldn't mind knowing what people are thinking...
[11:51] SS: well maybe from time to time...
[11:51] SS: but not all the time...
[11:51] SS: and...
[11:51] SS: the truth hurts...
[11:52] FE: ...
[11:52] FE: in the end though
[11:52] FE: doesn't it all work out???
[11:52] SS: i suppose...
[11:52] FE: yeah
[11:52] FE: I'm sure it does
[11:53] FE: hey ummm
[11:53] FE: tertia!
[11:53] FE: do aliens sleep???
[11:53] SS: yes...
[11:53] SS: uh...
[11:53] SS: yes...
[11:53] FE: oh hahaha sorry if that was a silly question!
[11:53] FE: I'm asking because I'm a little tired
[11:53] SS: oh...
[11:53] SS: okay...
[11:53] SS: are you going to nap...
[11:54] FE: yeah I think...
[11:54] SS: okay...
[11:54] SS: sleep well...
[11:55] FE: ok!
[11:55] FE: it was really nice talking to you
[11:55] SS: oh...thanks...

[11:55] FE: um
[11:55] FE: bye!!!
